Overclock Your Mac Pro with ZDNet's Tool

ZDNet has a nice little utility that can overclock a Mac Pro. According to Gizmodo:
Apparently ZDNet Clock is so good, the cheapest 2.8GHz Mac Pro outperforms the 3.2MHz Mac Pro, saving you $1600.

New Clamshell Blackberry Rumored to Sell for $49

If the rumor is true, I tend to think that this phone will eat up the low-cost phone segment. The key is that the phone live up to the quality expectations that are typical of RIM phones.

Since I'm on the topic of Blackberries, I have to say that I'm getting sick of quote-whoring phone analysts talking out of their backsides.

There is no such thing as an iPhone killer. There is no such thing as a Blackberry killer. And no, Palm is not on its last legs.

There's a huge segment that wants an iPod/iPhone experience. That segment is not going to be swayed by any phone offering an iPhone-like experience. The same applies for Blackberries. And if the popularity of the Palm Centro is any indicator, Palm is finally starting to get back on its feet. The phone market is huge, and if you're to believe that there is such a thing as a Long Tail, then there is plenty of room for everyone to make money.

Asus Eee... Overexposed?

With the recent flood of "netbooks" into the market, it seems like Asus' defence is to release even more irrelevant models of the Eee.

I tend to think that Asus would serve themselves well by keeping a simpler line of Eee products. After a successful head start, it seems like they've made several missteps with their short release cycles. If you ask me, they should keep their product lines simple - three models, based on screen size.

Roger's iPhone Early Cancellation Fees a Typo?

Daring Fireball posted an update to his note on Rogers' suspiciously egregious early cancellation fees:
Apparently it was a typo that has since been corrected. The page now reads: “The ECF is the greater of (ii) $100 or (iii) $20 per month remaining in the service agreement, to a maximum of $400"

NWSPAPR CALL CN 416-630-2172, Please Leave Me Alone!

While I think that the title of this post pretty much sums up my sentiment, the same goes for that company that calls me every other day telling me that I have credit problems. And the lady with the annoying voice who wants me to move out of my house and hire her company to facilitate the move.

Sorta makes me want to drop the land line altogether.

8 Days Left

The iPhone officially arrives in Canada on July 11.

While I'm glad that the iPhone is finally coming, I'm a little less excited about the plans being offered.

So many "wonderful" things have been said about it that there probably is no need for me to talk about it.

Alanis Morissette: Flavors of Entanglement

Just picked up the deluxe edition of Alanis Morissette's new album off iTunes this week. It's a pretty strong effort. A little mellow, definitely not as angry as Jagged Little Pill, but probably her best effort in some time. Sixteen tracks for $12.99 is pretty hard to beat.

Xobni Boosts Outlook

Xobni (inbox spelled backwards, get it?) is pretty old news, but I just started using this Outlook plug-in, and I have to say, it's pretty neat.

I can't imagine that its utility is that great in smaller organizations, but in a larger one, it definitely has uses. For me, the killer feature is the attachment list by user. Using my recently adopted "zero inbox" methodology, I rely more heavily on search to find e-mail attachments. Xobni saves me a little time finding files.

This Is Now A RapidWeaver Free-Zone

After my catastrophic loss of data, I managed to recover about 90% of my posts. There are a couple of weeks of posts missing, and if I can, I'll try to reconstruct them, but for now, they're toast.

I'm totally off RapidWeaver now. I have migrated to Blogger. It took a little doing, since you can't easily bulk import data into Blogger, even with their beta import feature.

I'm looking into using a client to make posts, the two main contenders being Ecto and MarsEdit. I'm leaning toward MarsEdit right now, but I'm not totally sold on either product.

Some deficiencies with the restore - none of the recovered posts currently have tags. Since getting the posts back were priority one, the tags will reappear over time slowly. There might be some glitches, but I'll be making more adjustments over the next little while.

In many ways, I'm glad to have my blog back in the cloud. It's hard to abandon a paid software license, but if you can't trust the software to not lose critical data, it's a totally lost cause. Goodbye RapidWeaver, I hardly even knew ya.
